I’ve been studying and writing articles on applying PEMF and LLLT for the brain since several years now, and find the two modalities to have excellent benefits in almost all areas of application where inflammation and oxidative stress reduction are the means. This week, let’s discuss two great topics.
LLLT for Tinnitus
Tinnitus is not new to me as I’ve been a sound engineer and performing artist during my teenage and twenties. I also had swimmers ears. I probably still have a tone ringing in my ears since my last gig decades ago! I produce music and enjoy playing instruments especially with my kids, so definitely place high value on my hearing!
Anyways, I’ve found PEMF, Hydrogen and LLLT to be great modes to make the ears happy. Earlier I had an audiologist visit every year to have my ears cleaned, but now its been about 5 years and I haven’t had to do it, I’ve learnt how to better take care of ears I guess.
Hydrogen inhalation helped a lot I can say, as the ears automatically receive a good dose when you’re doing inhalation. If you have clogged ears due to cold, not only will the cold symptoms be gone quickly within a couple of sessions, the ears will feel clearer too. A dab of coconut oil also helps greatly and something that my grandma always used.
Our ears, nose, throat and spot application low-level laser device, the LLLT Complete has the perfect aural laser and just 15 mins/day for a few days can do wonders for the ears and hearing. I wouldn’t advise using it when you have a cold though, as you don’t want to sneeze while wearing the ear applicators. My article on LLLT for Tinnitus explores the clinical studies in more detail. It seems 650 nm / 5 mW / 20 mins/day / 3-4 weeks is a good protocol.
Hydrogen & Alzheimer’s
Alzheimer’s is one of the most common neurodegenerative conditions in seniors. It is often manifested as learning, cognition and memory impairment and as social and emotional disorders. However, for this high-risk common condition, there is currently no effective treatment, which has plagued many clinicians. Molecular hydrogen applied by inhaling hydrogen, inhaling hydrogen-oxygen mixed and by drinking hydrogen infused water has shown great anti-oxidative stress and anti-inflammatory effect in many conditions including diabetes and cancer. In the brain. it can ameliorate neuronal damage, maintain the number of neurons, prolong the lifespan of neurons, and ultimately inhibit progression.
In this new study from Japan, patients inhaled 3% H2 Gas (180 ml/min) for 1 hour twice daily for 6 months. The patients were clinically assessed using the Alzheimer’s Disease Assessment Scale-cognitive subscale (ADAS-cog) after their inhalation sessions and the assessments continued for 1 year after stopping hydrogen inhalation. The results showed significant improvements after 6 months of H2 treatment.

The improvements were maintained during the follow-up after 6 months (significantly) or 1 year (non-significantly). In further follow-up for 6 additional months, the trend of improvement continued. This study suggests that H2 inhalation resulted in marked improvements and importantly, provided not only temporary relief, but also maintained the effect for at least 6 months without H2 treatment.
So here we are! Molecular hydrogen is as predicted by yours truly years ago, is exploring new vistas in extending lifespan and making life livable and more comfortable.
As H2 is a fairly new technology and there are little comparative studies between dosages, it's difficult to say the full extent of benefits at various doses. There are studies that use small amounts and studies that use larger amounts. The higher doses are generally well accepted by hypertensive and diabetes patients. As H2 has primary effects as anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory, the amount of benefit experienced would depend on these factors. It also has anti-aging effects that are more genetic in nature. I guess sustained use for 6 months-2 years will give a more clear picture of its full extent of benefit to any individual.
As H2 rapidly acts against harmful free radicals and boosts oxygen utilization thereby energizing the cells, higher doses of H2 should be combined with O2. If your oxygen levels are low, start slow with pure H2 or you can combine the both and not worry about lower O2 levels.
I started using H2 +o2 at a dose of 1500 after 2 years on 900 (about once a week at least), I found the 1500 to provide a much better effect, mainly in energy levels and "clear" headedness. I also find it to be acting faster on the system. And now with the 3000 machine, the healing potential of H2 is limitless when you can swap 50% of your breathing with non-toxic, harmful free radical reducing and highly energizing Oxyhydrogen.
